ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan thanked Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif on Tuesday for providing assistance in the peaceful conduct of by-elections on Oct 11.

In a letter to the army chief, the CEC said: “After agreeing to the requisition of troops, the Pakistan Army assisted the ECP in fulfilling its constitutional obligation to hold honest, just and fair elections in an effective manner.”

Expressing pleasure over the well-organised performance of the troops, he said the way army officers and jawans came out with flying colours to help the Election Commission to conduct the by-polls was a matter of satisfaction for the commission and the nation.

The CEC asked the army chief to convey his gratitude to the Director General, Military Operations, and the formations concerned for making foolproof security arrangements.
