SUKKUR: The 20th meeting of the Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) board of directors was cancelled at the 11th hour on Saturday and all the invitees had to return in utter confusion after they found the venue on the utility’s head-office premises locked.

Sources within Sepco said the meeting was cancelled in the backdrop of the report released by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) which expressed dissatisfaction over performance of various power distribution companies and exposed their illegal practices, including issuance of wrong and detection bills and unnecessary loadshedding.

The sources said that some directors intended to take up a 22-point agenda prepared in the light of Nepra findings and public complaints with the Sepco chairman and chief executive officer. A no-confidence motion against the Sepco chairman was also planned, they added quoting one of the directors.

Sepco chairman Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui told Dawn that the meeting could not be held as most directors failed to reach Sukkur owing to PIA pilots’ strike and resultant disruption in the flights schedule. He said the meeting would hopefully be rescheduled for Oct 13.
