HYDERABAD: Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Haider Jamali distributed compensation cheques among families of martyred policemen at a special ceremony at the newly-built DIG office here on Sunday.

Speaking at the ceremony, the IGP said the national action plan was top priority of police. Both federal and provincial government had appreciated efforts made by Sindh police to meet objectives of the national plan, he said.

He said that police were working on banned organisations and were aware of the outfits which had become active again after changing their names.

He urged police officers to change oppressive culture of police stations and make it so friendly that complainants could comfortably report crimes.

He said that he was rebuilding police force with modern automatic weapons and technology. Bullet-proof jackets, helmets and bomb-proof vehicles were also being purchased for strengthening the force, he added.

The IGP said that a memorandum of understanding had been inked between Sindh police and administration of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology for the education of children of police martyrs. Another MoU had been signed with Bahria Town for building houses for the families of police martyrs, he said.

He said that a police training centre was being set up at Ganjo Takkar in Hyderabad to train policemen and commandoes.

Meanwhile, the IGP also gave awards to 27 constables for their good performance and distributed cheques worth Rs15 million each to two families of

sub-inspector (SI) Wahid Bux Leghari and SI Hassan Ali Abdi, and Rs5 million each to families of four police constables Dilbar Hussain, Anwer Jameel, Abdul Jabbar and Shahzad Marri.
