SIALKOT: A 10-year-old child died late on Friday at a wedding ceremony in Dheera Sandha village when bullets hit him.

The Henna ceremony of Ansar Mahmood was being held in the village when some wedding guests, including Saleem Akhtar, started firing to celebrate the event. Bullets hit minor Usman and Irfan, 23, due to which the child died on the spot, while Irfan was shifted to the Government Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

Sialkot Saddar police arrested Saleem Akhtar for firing.

PTI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Umer Dar has accused the PML-N of usurping the rights of growers in the country, saying the ineffective agricultural policies has resulted into the prevailing financial crisis of farmers.

He said this at a provincial Kisan convention at Rasulpur Bhallian on Saturday.

He said the crisis should be an eye opener for all those in power. He said it was ironic that the farmers, who were regarded as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, were looking for packages, incentives and subsidies as the cost of production had increased manifolds. He said only the PTI had planned an agri-based development agenda, which would bring about an economical change in the agriculture sector.

He said the recent Prime Minister’s Kissan Package was nothing more than a lollipop.

SUSPENDED: The provincial government has suspended from service Pasrur Public Health Engineering sub-divisional officer Zulfiqar Passia and a sub-engineer Muhammad Ashraf for their alleged involvement in an embezzlement of Rs50 million meant for a Chawinda sewerage scheme.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Asif Tufail told reporters in Daska on Saturday both the officials had got a fictitious sewerage scheme inaugurated in Chawinda on September 6, 2015.

MPA Rana Liaqat Ali, Sialkot DCO Dr Asif Tufail, Assistant commissioner Pasrur Tauqeer Ilyas Cheema and local notables had inaugurated the plaque of the Rs50 million scheme whereas the scheme did not exist there.

The DCO said the district government had brought the scam into the notice of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
