Nawab Bugti’s death anniversary observed

Quetta: A strike was observed in Quetta and several district towns of Balochistan to mark the 9th death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, founder of the Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP). The strike was supported by the Baloch Republican Party, Balochistan National Party-Mengal, Baloch Qaumi Yakjehti Council, Awami National Party-Wali, PML-N, and Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA).

Business centres and markets remained closed on Sariab Road, Satellite Town, Sabzal Road in Quetta and Nushki, Dalbandin, Kharan, Washuk, Mastung, Kalat, Dhadar and Sibi.

Lawyers boycotted proceedings at the high court, sessions and civil courts, the anti-terrorism court and judicial magistrates in the city on a call given by the BHCBA.

Nawab Bugti was a prominent Baloch nationalist leader and fought for the rights of the people of Balochistan. He was killed on Aug 26 2006, in an explosion in a cave where he had taken refuge during a military crackdown.
