QUETTA: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Friday.

The warrants were issued on the order of ATC-II judge Nauroz Khan Hout after a hearing on a petition filed by a citizen Khudai Rahim.

The judge also ordered that Altaf Hussain be immediately arrested and produced in court on August 25.

In his petition, Rahim had said that the recent statements issued by the MQM supremo were tantamount to treason against the state of Pakistan.

The MQM chief Altaf Hussain has already been in hot water due to his recent speeches, which resulted in the registration of a number of First Information Reports (FIR) in different cities across Pakistan.

On July 29, an ATC in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Hussain as a result of multiple FIRs registered in the province.

The FIRs were registered under sections related to treason and rebellion against the state of Pakistan.

While only two days ago, an ATC in Karachi, MQM's stronghold, also issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for the party's founding leader in a case registered by Pakistan Rangers Sindh official Colonel Tahir.

Mr Hussain was accused of using threatening language against Pakistan Rangers Sindh personnel who raided the MQM headquarters ‘Nine Zero’ on March 11.

The remarks were reportedly made during a television interview.

In April, Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations Maj Gen Asim Bajwa had said that statements made by the MQM chief regarding the Pakistan Army would be legally pursued.
