ISLAMABAD: The mechanism for disbursement of Rs20 billion subsidy on phosphate and potash fertilisers, particularly diammonium phosphate, was discussed in a meeting between the ministries of Industries and Production and National Food Security and the farming community on Tuesday.
The government had announced the subsidy in the federal budget for 2015-16.
Various proposals were discussed to reach consensus on a viable arrangement ensuring transparency as well as high visibility and enforcement of the initiative.
Industries Minister Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi briefed the meeting on the implementation of a substantive subsidy package which will give relief to Pakistani farmers.
Both ministries agreed to encourage maximum number of importers and producers to ensure steady supply. They also supported efforts of registering farmers for transparent distribution.
The industries minister stressed to ensure systems to check overcharging by dealers. He urged that pricing should be transparent and directed the companies to ensure provision of updated price lists to dealers who are obligated to display it at sales point prominently.
