KARACHI: An antiterrorism court on Saturday allowed the police to grill three suspects allegedly involved in the Safoora bus carnage in another case pertaining to a suicide attack on the convoy of a senior Rangers official.

The investigation officer of the case filed an application before the ATC-I stating that the three suspects — Tahir Hussain Minhas alias Sain, Saad Aziz alias Tin Tin alias John and Mohammad Azhar Ishrat alias Majid — were also required for questioning in the case pertaining to a suicide attack on the convoy of a sector commander of Rangers in February last year near Qayyumabad.

The IO further submitted that the suspects had already been remanded in judicial custody and asked the court to issue a no-objection certificate to allow the police to question them.

Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso of the ATC-I granted the NOC and also allowed the IO to grill the required suspects on the premises of the Karachi central prison.

According to the prosecution, a suicide bomber had targeted the convoy of Brigadier Shuja when he was heading to his office. His vehicle was damaged, two soldiers sustained injuries, but he survived the attack.

Suspects Minhas, Saad Aziz, Ishrat, Asad-ur-Rehman alias Malik and Hafiz Nasir alias Yasir have already been booked for allegedly killing 47 people of Shia Ismaili community in an armed attack on their bus near Safoora Goth on May 13.

Saad and Minhas have also been booked in dozens of other cases including the murder of human rights activist Sabeen Mahmud, a bomb attack on a Bohra community mosque, killing of some police officers and a naval official, attack on the life of American national Debra Lobo, grenade attacks during at private schools, Islamic Research Centre, etc.
