Altaf accuses Zardari of deceiving him

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain said on Thursday that Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had a “deal with the army” and that he had been deceived by him.
“I supported Asif Zardari in tough times when leaders of his own PPP had ditched him ... in return he [Zardari] has deceived me,” said Mr Hussain while speaking from London to an annual assistance programme of the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation at the Jinnah ground.
He said that Mr Zardari had a deal with generals which still existed.
He said Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif also criticised the army when they were not in power. “Recently Asif Zardari openly spoke against the army” but no action was taken against him.

He said the Sindh government was equally to blame for “injustices to MQM and Muhajirs”. “I thought the former president (Asif Zardari) wanted to do something positive for Pakistan, but I did not know his aim was to loot Pakistan.”
He asked whether it was a crime to engage in a peaceful protest against illegal and unconstitutional actions.
Mr Hussain said the Rangers director general had issued a directive to arrest “sector and unit in charges” of the MQM. “Under what charges they are being arrested,” he asked.
He said senior officials of the Army had told him that they were “shaking hands with the MQM” after removing all misgivings about him. He urged those officers to ask the present army leadership to stop “excesses against us”.

that is true that no action was taken against zardari on his speech against the army but i am damn sure that for his own interest, altaf would shake hands with zardari jamhooriyat ki khidmat aur usko mazbook karne k liye

Dear Altaf Bahi, you are still living in 1980's. I am from Karachi and used be to be from a Mohajir family. There is no more any mohajirs in Pakistan. We are only Pakistanis, not Sindhis, Punjabis, Blochis or Pathans. Please come over to Karachi and check the ground realities.

Siding with PPP at any cost has perhaps been the biggest blunder of mqm over rhe last seven years. It was all right if PPP was ready to share political and administrative space with mqm including agreeing to give full local govetnment powers to mqm in the urban ateas. However, either out if politicial naivete or a sincere desire to keep good relations with the sindhi speaking population, mqm continued to stick by with ppp. PPP has, hoever, taken mqm for a ride with mqm getting zilch in return, eith urban areas of sindh falling in a state of decay one could never imagine. Many well wishers of mqm had suggested it to concentrate on a single point agenda of getting the right amount of civic autonomy for the urban areas, something which can not be denied on any reasonable grounds. Time still for mqm to correct its qibla and focus on the issues of urban sindh, the raison d'etre for its existence.

@SIR Chin Well said brother. My parents migrated from Indian Punjab but I never heard the mohajir word from their mouth although they lost everything. We are all Pakistanis and nothing else. Gone are the days when people used to exploit this for political and financial gains. AH should come back to Pakistan and play a constructive role.

@SIR Chin very well said, I also belong to urdu speaking family and my parents were migrated to Pakistan. I have never experienced great amount of grief and pain of discrimination from my other non-urdu speaking countrymen. Gone are days when Bhutto discriminated Urdu speaking working class citizens. Today, Mqm has itself appointed thousands of their non-merit 'Saathi bhais' in various organizations such K-Electric, KWSB, PTCL, KMC, KBA and KDA etc (to name few).
Aslike PPP, MQM always play Mohajir cards when their own lives are in danger.

The present situation and fact seems to support Altaf Hussain's statement. Rangers need to take action equally against criminal and corrupt element in other political parties. Else it will look an action which is directed only against MQM.

"Muhajir" as an identity is quickly losing real significance. Yes, people still call themselves Muhajir, but this isn't the early 90s - Muhajirs, Pashtuns, Punjabis, Sindhis, all can now freely intermingle. This is especially true of the middle classes which MQM claims to represent.

Descendents of Muhajirs aren't Sindhi either. Remember how MQM and Altaf tried to adopt that label about 10-15 years ago? They tried to say they were sons of Sindh. Even if you are born in Sindh, you are not Sindhi unless your ancestors are from Sindh and spoke Sindhi. Or at the very least, you adopt Sindhi culture and assimilate into Sindh - and no urbanite in Karachi would ever do that. Descendants of muhajirs are simply Pakistanis.
