QUETTA: The fourth polio case of the year was detected in Balochistan on Thursday.

Dr Syed Saifur Rehman, Coordinator of Emergency Operation Centre in Balochistan, said a boy was infected with the poliovirus in Pashtoonabad area of Quetta.

It was the second case detected in Pashtoonabad. One each case was earlier reported from Loralai and Qila Abdullah districts.

With the fresh detection, the number of cases in the country reached 26 this year.

Dr Rehman said that poliovirus was found in 57-month-old Sharifullah, son of Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Metha Chowk in Pashtoonabad Union Council 11-B. He said the child had never received a dose of polio vaccination because his parents had turned down polio teams.
