OUR government takes every possible step to provide products on cheap rates to its citizens. But it seems that the inflation mafia has something anti in their mind.

I went for buying mangoes from a fruit seller who had hid the precious commodity — mangoes — under the fruit cart. It was only because the Deputy Commissioner had ordered that fruit prices be listed on every cart.

I saw that mango was to be sold at Rs70 per kg as per official list. However, the fruit seller was selling it at Rs120 per kg. I had no alternative but to buy it at that steep price.

I just quoted mango as an example. However, milk, vegetables, pulses, beans, fruits, meat, etc., all are sold at exorbitant prices during Ramadan.

Why don’t government officials arrest people who sell mangoes and other fruits, vegetables, etc., according to their own set prices?
