KP govt spends Rs130 million on honorary payments

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spent a sum of Rs130 million under the sub-head of honoraria— payment given for professional services that are rendered nominally without charge— during the outgoing fiscal year, according to a document obtained by Dawn.com.

Provincial assembly secretariat servants were awarded Rs20.42 million under the honoraria sub-head, while the provincial establishment division received Rs10.84 million under the same head.

The finance ministry received Rs10.41 million, while the military secretary to the KP Governor and his staff were awarded Rs10.2 million under the same sub-head.

When questioned about these payments, KP Information Minister Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani said these were handed out to "individuals who undertook extra work or those who had done something significant but were surviving without salaries."
