JACOBABAD: At least eight people were injured in a blast on Saturday on a railway track near Jacobabad's district jail.

The blast occurred when the Jaffer Express train, which was taking passengers from Rawalpindi to Quetta, was passing through the area. Four bogies of the locomotive derailed from the track when the blast took place, injuring eight passengers.

The injured were taken to Civil Hospital Jacobabad and a bomb disposal squad was summoned as police and Rangers cordoned off the area. The intensity of the blast created an eight-foot ditch in the affected area.

All train activities were suspended after the blast and the remaining passengers were transferred to private buses and vans.

Earlier this year, at least 25 people were wounded in a remote-controlled explosion on railway tracks near Jacobabad's Dil Murad station.

Spokesman Baloch Republican Army (BRA) Sarbaz Baloch had claimed responsibility for targeting the railway tracks at the time. He had said that the attack was in retaliation for the killing of Baloch people in Kharan's Basima area.

In another incident last year, a bomb targeting a passenger train near Unnar Wah railway station in Jacobabad killed at least seven people and wounded more than 30.
