“These birds and I have a same wish - freedom. People buy them to set them free as a traditional belief that their wish will come true. And by setting them free I wish I can find freedom from poverty. I want to feed my children and send them to school and be free of my financial debt.
While these birds are with me, I take care of them. I feed them, keep them under the tree when it’s too hot. I feel attached to them. Its because of them that I’m able to earn a living. Its not easy sitting by the road all day and deal with customers. Some get very angry, others leave without paying. I come to roadside after leaving my pride and self respect home or else I won’t be able to earn.”
