HYDERABAD: More than 40 students of the Cadet College Petaro suffered from food poisoning on Wednesday morning after taking dinner on Tuesday night at the college mess, college Principal Commodore Mehboob Elahi Malik confirmed to Dawn.

Around 500 students of various classes took dinner on Tuesday night and about 40-50 students of Class XI to XII were suffering from food poisoning when they got up in the morning.

They had complaints of diarrhoea, headache and vomiting.

They were admitted to an internal hospital of the Petaro college called ‘Sickbay’ where 20 students were still under observation while others were stable.

The principal briefly said that all students were stable.

Two new students of Class XI, Talha Sanjrani and Mohammad Noman, were shifted to Red Crescent Hospital Latifabad where Mohammad Noman was discharged after medical treatment and Talha Sanjrani was admitted till filing of this report at 10:45pm.

Zulfiqar, brother of Talha Sanjrani, told Dawn that Talha was suffering from headache and vomiting.

He said he had received a phone call from the principal who told him about the incident. His brother was shifted to the Red Crescent hospital because the Petaro hospital had less facilities.

Waqar Hussain, uncle of Mohammad Noman, said that some students were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Hyderabad, but people were not allowed to visit there.

Students of Class XI and XII are taking their HSC Part-I and II annual examinations these days.

It would be premature to say that they suffered from food (Bund Kabab) served at the dinner, college Public Relation Officer Prof Zafar Leghari said, adding that all students were stable.
