KARACHI: Upcoming spinner Mohammad Hassaan Khan bagged 10 wickets in the match and opener Hasan Mohsin struck an undefeated double century as Zone-VI crushed Zone-VII by innings in their Karachi region tie of the PCB Regional Inter-district U-19 Cricket Championships here on Saturday.

Playing their third game in this season’s tournament, Zone-VI enjoyed their first outright success while annihilating the hapless Zone-VII by an innings and 244 runs at the UBL Sports Complex.

Zone-VII, who mustered a measly total of 69 on Friday, started their second innings with a huge 295-run deficit fared even worse when they were sent packing inside 22 overs for 51 with just Azizuddin (10) reaching double figures.

Hassaan followed up his brilliant spell of 5-15 with remarkable analysis of 8.4-7-4-5 to end up with match figures of 10 for 19 in 18.5 overs of which 10 were maiden. Fellow slow left-armer Alam Khurshid Shah took the remaining five wickets to fall in the second innings for 27 runs in seven overs.

Earlier, Zone-VI added 15 more runs to their overnight tally of 349-2 before applying closure at 364-2 in 64.2 overs. Hasan, who resumed at 194, reached exactly 200 off 153 balls with 32 fours and a brace of sixes.

Skipper Fahaddis Bukhari extended his score to 107 (17 boundaries) while his partnership with Hasan was worth 270 for the unfinished third wicket.

By taking 10 points in this fixture, Zone-VI now have 16 from three matches — the same as Zone-V while Zone-II also have 16 points but have already played four games.

Zone-II, in fact, missed a golden opportunity on Saturday to go top of the standings after being denied victory by Zone-III at the NBP Sports Complex.

Replying to 327 made by Zone-II on Friday, Zone-III were all out for 193 after resuming their first innings at 60-2. Owais Butt remained undefeated on a fighting 80 (13 boundaries) while Osama Ali made 44.

Left-arm spinner Nasir Shah stole the day’s honour by grabbing seven wickets for 57, including a hat-trick.

Following on, Zone-III were 178-6 when the game finished with Owais once again making a vital contribution. This time he was out or a 113-ball 95 featuring 15 fours. Owais dominated the fifth-wicket stand of 112 with Junaid (51).

Like Zone-II, Zone-I also had to settle for just three points after being held to a draw by Zone-IV at the TMC Ground.

But the game was clouded by controversy when Zone-IV off-spinner Hamza Qadir was reported for a suspect bowling action — for the second time in the ongoing championship — by umpires Aaley Haider and Rasheed Khan.

Hamza was prevented from bowling after being reported. At that point, he had already captured five wickets for 41 runs in 13 overs. Zone-I ultimately collected 208-7 in their second innings when stumps were finally out to signal the end of the match.

While responding to Zone-I’s 276, Zone-IV reached 212 after beginning the day at 75-2. Ali Shoaib scored 62 with the aid of six hits to the fence while off-spinner Mohammad Wasim snared six wickets for 63 runs in 22 overs.

The next round of matches is scheduled to start from Monday.
