KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Monday suspended the operation of judgement of the Election Tribunal Hyderabad that had suspended the Sindh Assembly membership of Pakistan Peoples Party’s MPA Muhammad Nawaz Chandio.

A three-judge bench comprising justices Saqib Nisar, Gulzar Ahmed and Maqbool Baqar suspended the tribunal’s verdict on an appeal filed by Mr Chandio, who was represented by Advocate Farooq Naek in the apex court.

Advocate Naek said that the tribunal’s judge Ashraf Baloch had ordered re-election in 37 polling stations of Badin district-based PS-59 constituency on an election appeal of the provincial president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Muhammad Ismail Rahu. He told Dawn that the three-judge bench of the apex court suspend the tribunal’s judgement for the time being and the matter would be taken up again in the second week of June.

BADIN: The SC interim order sparked jubilations in PPP cadre in the district as large groups of activists took out rallies in Badin, Matli, Golarchi, Kario Ghanwar, Talhar, Dando, Khorwah and other towns.

Sweets were distributed among participants.

Mr Chandio, when contacted, told Dawn that he was ready to contest the re-election but on 120 polling stations of this constituency. His rival, Ismail Rahu, the Sindh PML-N president, said he would challenge the SC interim order.
