NOWSHERA: Police here on Friday foiled a smuggling attempt and recovered a big cache of arms and ammunition from a pick-up van at Bara Banda railway track.

Official sources said that following a tip-off the Nowshera police started checking of vehicles on Bara Banda-Risalpur road.

They stopped a pick-up (FDK 6177) going towards the motorway interchange of Rashakai and recovered three Kalashnikovs, 10 guns, pistols, 24,000 cartridges of 30 bore, 3,000 of 7.62 bore, and parts of weapons from cavities of the vehicle. They said that driver Aziz Ahmad, resident of Musazai, Peshawar, was arrested on the spot. A case has been regisitered in the Risalpur police station.

PASSING OUT PARADE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA Qurban Ali Khan said on Friday that the School of Explosives Handling would play a significant role in promotion of peace in the province.

Addressing the passing out ceremony at the newly-established School of Explosives Handling here, he said that Pakistan had been facing multiple challenges, which needed to be handled through new approaches.

He praised the efforts of instructors and hoped that the cadets would play their due role in providing protection to the life and property of people.

He claimed that such initiatives by the government had minimised the terrorist events in the province. On this occasion, principal DSP Waqar Khan distributed certificates among the cadets.

Meanwhile, minister for excise and taxation Mian Jamshaiduddin said that the provincial government was trying to introduce uniform curriculum in educational institutions. He was addressing a gathering organised by the National Commission for Human Development here on Friday.

He said that the provincial government was determined to ensure uniform standard of education so as to provide equal opportunities to all students irrespective of their family status.
