TAXILA: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take notice of the campaign being run by some parliamentarians belonging to Taxila and Wah for their party candidates in the forthcoming cantonment board elections.

Without mentioning their names, the minister said the PTI member parliaments were involved in the electioneering of their party candidates which was a violation of the code of conduct issued by the ECP.

In reply to a question about the strategy of the PML-N for the cantonment board elections, the minister said a committee led by former MPA Umer Farooq had been formed to look into the progress of the candidates and finalise a strategy. He said the PML-N had strong roots in both Taxila and Wah and its candidates would get maximum support of the residents.

In reply to another question, he said a plan had been finalised to ease the traffic congestion in the Taxila city. He said different steps would be taken to resolve the issue. There is also a proposal to construct a bypass for the heavy traffic.

He said work on a state-of-the-art hospital in the city would start next month. In the first phase, the 300-bed hospital would be constructed for which funds have been released. He said work on the establishment of Rescue 1122 had also started which would be completed in three months.
