ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has notified 25 per cent regulatory duty on import of wheat and its products.

The duty was imposed on import of wheat, wheat flour, maida and semolina, according to SRO254 of 2015 issued here on Tuesday.

The decision to impose the regulatory duty was taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet in a recent meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, to discourage wheat import and its products because of falling international prices. The decision would support local farmers at the expense of consumers.
