SECTARIAN and religious extremism are evils that cause disintegration of the state. Unfortunately, Pakistan has been a victim of sectarianism and religious extremism for a long time.

Recently, I went to a mosque in G-10 sector of Islamabad for Friday prayers where I noticed the bigoted attitude of the imam and how he was indoctrinating against the Shia community.

The way he was preaching via loudspeaker to the people in the mosque clearly presented Shias as non-Muslims. How poor of the state that it is not able to enforce its writ!

Islam is a religion of peace and tranquillity, but I don’t know why the imam was so determined to spread hate among different communities and sects of the state.

It is the duty of law-enforcement agencies to warn and arrest such people as are causing hatred. The Wifaqul Madaris too must play its role regarding it.
