PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Peshawar district, president MPA Yaseen Khalil said on Friday that his party had made preparations for the forthcoming local government (LG) elections and would hopefully sweep the polls in the province.
He was speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club. On thi occasion, educationist Nazar Hussain announced to join PTI along with his family members and friends.
Mr Khalil rejected the allegations levelled by opposition parties that PTI was using official funds and machinery for raising its vote bank, saying that opposition parties were unable to compete with them and thus making a baseless propaganda.
He said that the provincial government was fully prepared to hold free, fair and transparent local government elections in the province. He said that PTI would make seat-to-seat adjustment with its allied Jamaat-i-Islami and Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP) in the upcoming LG elections in KP.
Flanked by the party district activists and workers, Mr Khalil hoped that the LG elections would be held in May this year. He said that a total of 925 applications had been submitted from over 92 union councils of Peshawar district by the aspirant candidates.
The PTI leader rejected the allegations of tripartite alliance of opposition parties, including PPP, ANP and JUI-F, regarding use of funds and postings/transfers of officers, and asked them to come up with evidence, if they have.
He maintained that the tripartite alliance had been rejected by masses during last general elections, and now they were again raising baseless allegations to create hurdles to holding of LG elections. He vowed that the provincial government would ensure transparency and fairness at all levels in the electoral process.
