LAKKI MARWAT: Personnel of counterterrorism department (CTD) on Monday arrested a terrorist during a raid in Lakki city here.

“The district field unit had received credible information about the presence of a terrorist named Samiullah in the urban locality whereupon CTD personnel chalked out a plan to capture him,” said an official. He said that the terrorist, wanted by law enforcement agencies in terrorism related cases, was captured in a successful action.

The official said that Samiullah belonged to Kattakhel village of Lakki Marwat and was among the terrorists who planned and executed the deadly suicide attack in a volleyball ground in Shah Hasankhel area on Jan 1, 2010. “Over 100 villagers, including security personnel, were killed in the attack,” maintained the official.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have arrested six proclaimed offenders and 15 suspects during the ongoing search and strike operation in different parts of the district.

A police official said that commandos of Anti-Terror Squad and Elite Force backed by armoured personnel carriers also took part in the offensive against criminals.

He said that the law enforcers eliminated the hideouts of criminals’ gangs and seized an AK-47 assault rifle, four kalakovs, four pistols and a good number of bullets from the anti-social elements.

The official added that the arrested outlaws were wanted in cases of heinous nature while the suspects were shifted to different police stations for identification and interrogation. — Correspondent
