PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Sherpao on Thursday criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for its failure to fulfil commitments about the development and eradication of corruption.

He urged the government to expedite the utilisation of development funds allocated under the Annual Development Programme to facilitate people of the province.

In a statement, he feared that the development funds would lapse like the previous financial year if the money was not used timely.

“Most of the departments have used a meagre amount of money so the funds would lapse if development work was not carried out,” he maintained.

Mr Sherpao said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led provincial government had failed to deliver on its pledges. “The working of even a single department couldn’t be improved in the last almost two years,” he claimed.

He said that the PTI hoodwinked masses with catchy slogans and they had also realised the actual position.

He said that the provincial government could not give any relief to the people let alone launching any big development project.

He said that the slogan of change was a ploy to reach the power corridors, as PTI failed to initiate a single mega development project to provide relief to the people.

He said that the rulers were least bothered to resolve problems of people and that was why unrest among the neglected segment was on the rise.

“No tangible steps have been taken to mitigate the sufferings of people who have been exposed to untold miseries,” the QWP leader said and urged the government to fulfil the commitments it had made with masses and spend the funds on solution of their problems.

Mr Sherpao said that they would take to the streets if the route of Pak-China Economic Corridor was changed. “We will not compromise on the rights of the people and will not allow anybody to usurp their rights,” he vowed.

He also asked the people of the province to be vigilant and forge unity for getting their rights.
