LAHORE: The mother of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif and Maj Shabbir Sharif (Nishan-i-Haider) died of heart failure at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), Rawalpindi, on Saturday morning.

She was admitted to the AFIC with heart ailment where she passed away in the small hours. Her funeral payers were offered twice – first at Chaklala and then, later in the day, at the Cavalry Ground graveyard in Lahore.

At Chaklala, the funeral prayers were attended by President Mamnoon Husain, federal ministers Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and retired Lt-Gen Abdul Qadir, AJK President Sardar Yaqoob, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Rashad Mehmood, naval and air chiefs, serving and retired civil and military officers and civil society representatives.

Later, in Lahore, the funeral prayers were attended by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Lahore Corps Commander Lt Gen Naweed Zaman and senior serving and retired armed forces officers, troops of Lahore Garrison and the relatives.

She was buried at the Cavalry Ground graveyard where wreaths were laid on her grave.

Her qul will be held on Sunday (today) at 2pm at the Army Guest House, Lahore Cantt. Quran Khwani and dua will be offered at 4pm, according to ISPR.
