LAHORE: The opening of the Faisalabad-Gojra Motorway is being delayed for the last two months as the authorities wait for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to cut the ribbon.

The 58km stretch was a part of the Faisalabad-Multan Motorway initiated by the PPP government around three years ago. About 70pc of its construction was completed during the PPP government while the rest of the road was completed around two months ago.

Officials concerned confirmed the completion of the project and that its opening was subject to the inauguration by the prime minister. The people, however, say the road should immediately be opened to traffic without the inauguration which could take place at the convenience of the prime minister.

The motorway’s stretch would facilitate travel for the residents of Gojra, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and several other surrounding towns, especially helping the people shift patients to Lahore without wasting time on other routes.
