KANDHKOT: Immense fog and leakage from the gas pipeline caused 11 units of the Guddu Thermal Power Plant to shut down due to tripping, officials said Tuesday.
The tripping of these 11 units caused suspension of electricity for 12 hours in various areas of Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab. Authorities said the units will be restored as soon as the gas leakage is repaired.
The Guddu Thermal Power Plant has 17 power units, out of which only six are currently working.
Pakistan was plunged into darkness after a key power transmission line broke down early on Sunday in an incident being initially blamed on a rebel attack, the latest reminder of the country's crippling energy crisis.

The power failure, one of the worst the country has experienced, caused electricity to be cut in major cities throughout the country, including the capital Islamabad.
The tripping of Guddu power plant's transmission lines affected the 500KV power line from the national grid, forcing Jamshoro and Bin Qasim power stations to shut down.

The central government will definitely have to suffer the consequences for their false promises made during the May elections. This is the law of the God. The authorities have lost credibility in the eyes of commoners. They have become so helpless that they have started asking for help of Chinese and Americas to control the electricity crisis. However, I agree that people in the central government have not lost but gained and expanded their businesses to manyfold. But the question is for how long? Where is the wealth of Bhutto family? Likewise, there is no guarantee who will be enjoying the edifice of money built by these rulers.

Hahahahaha...and now again Khawaja Asif will bring some very valid excuse...as a matter of fact it is when all honest professionals from WAPDA are condemned and made to leave their jobs, the gangsters so called Engineers become the bosses in the power set-up, and CSPs run the show from Islamabad...following instructions from their political bosses...unfortunately the real results are yet to be seen!!!
The level of loot and corruption in power distribution sector is unprecedented, crossing all previous marks, now even leaving Zardari behind...for God sake PMLN and so called democracy...please leave us along, for God sake

India knows this and will keep in mind when taking required befitting measures.
In any case the total power generated in Pakistan is less that 10% of that generated by India.

The complexity arises on account of lack of investment in the electricity distribution network. And no - undoing the Islamabad metro project will not release enough money to fix the distribution network. Reducing your defense budget would. But please feel free to blame the powerless (pun fully itended) Nawaz Sharif for the problem and give a clean chit to Rahil sharif who derailed Nawaz Sharif's peace initiative with India by firing not just on LOC but also on the international border in August and later pushing Abdul Basit to invite Hurriyat despite specific agreement with Nawaz that talks on Kashmir would be direct between India and Pakistan without Hurriyat being involved.
These power and fuel outages are very unfortunate - particularly because they are so unnecessary.
