LAHORE: An emergency control room has been set up in Lahore’s District Co-ordination Office (DCO) in light of the fuel crisis that has entered its ninth day on Wednesday.

Residents can dial the emergency number 042-99214191 to report shortage of petrol at any fuel stations.

DCO Capt Muhammad Usman (retired) claimed that more petrol is being supplied to fuel stations in Lahore for the past three days than is needed.

He claimed that 160 petrol pumps are being supplied with petrol in Lahore as of now, while 142 remain closed. He also said that 87 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling stations in the city are being provided gas.

A committee set up by the prime minister to probe the fuel crisis earlier held the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) responsible for failing to regulate the fuel supplies.

According to the DCO, 11 petrol pumps in Lahore have been designated for emergency services.

About 3 million litres of petrol is being supplied everyday to fuel pumps in Lahore, the DCO said.

He appeared hopeful that the issue of petrol shortage will be solved within two days and stated that more than 100 people have been arrested for selling petrol at exorbitant costs.
