Candlelight vigils

Published December 26, 2014

THIS refers to ongoing condolence protests and candlelight vigils in solidarity with the Army Public School carnage victims. Everyone is sad on this massacre.

For the last few days, major streets of Karachi have been blocked by people and civil society activists. They organise protests and candlelight vigils in the middle of streets rather than one side.

I suffered a lot because of civil society organisations which always condemn roadblocks when political parties press for their demands. The terrorists will neither surrender nor will they end such atrocities on the demand of the public as they are determined to kill innocent people.

If these protests were against the government, then the government and all other opposition parties are already united against the terrorists on this issue. Then why are streets blocked and people made to suffer?

I request civil society not to create trouble for the people by blocking streets as it is not a positive way to mourn.
