CHAKWAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Monday that the country's development process will continue despite hurdles created by protesting parties, said a report published on Radio Pakistan.

Speaking at an inauguration ceremony for modernisation of the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway in Chakwal, the premier further said if the hurdles stop, the development process will gain momentum and the country will witness an era of prosperity.

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, some members of the Parliament and elders of the areas were also present on the occasion.

The PM also added that in 2018 when his term ends, his government will have on their record the end of loadshedding, overcoming gas shortage, eliminating terrorism and a reduction in price hike. Whereas the opposition will only have sit-ins and speeches of siege on their record when they come to the polls for the next election.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan claims the 2013 general election was rigged and wants Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign.

Khan has vowed to paralyse major cities around the country as part of his efforts to topple Sharif's government and his party has partially shut the eastern city of Lahore today in the latest round of protests against the government.

A lengthy sit-in protest outside the parliament building in Islamabad in late August and early September led to brief violent clashes and destabilised the premier's government.

Khan has warned that he and his supporters will paralyse the country on December 18 if their demands are not met.
