Defence expo begins tomorrow

KARACHI: The 8th biennial International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS 2014) is beginning at the Karachi Expo Centre on Dec 1, and 88 delegations from 47 countries are set to take part in it.
In a sign of growing ties between Islamabad and Moscow, Russia will make its first appearance in the four-day exhibition which is expected to attract senior officials from different countries, exhibitors and local and foreign visitors.
An important aspect of the IDEAS 2014 will be an international defence seminar to be held on Monday evening.
Several high-level meetings between foreign delegates, key government officials, and participants of the exhibition have been planned on the sidelines of the exhibition for forging alliances in defence production.
The Director Media, Defence Export Promotion Organisation (Depo), Ministry of Defence Production, Commodore Tahir Javed, briefed journalists about the exhibition on Saturday.
“We have received overwhelming response from exhibitors and delegations from across the globe as out of 88 delegations around 47 are headed either by defence ministers, joint chiefs, services chiefs or defence secretaries of their countries. In addition to this, 333 firms will exhibit their products of which 256 are foreign and 77 Pakistani,” Commodore Javed said.

@Nazrul Isalam india developed sukhoi-30 mki an air superiority fighter with fighter,india indigenously developed tejas fighter planes,arjun battletanks,our own missile systems,our own satellites and now aircraft carriers etc.... There is no comparison indeed

This exhibition made every Pakistani very proud and we are very thankful of our defense establishment. This show of strength should be an eye opener and send a stern warnings to hostile neighboring country India.

@Nazrul Isalam Dawn news have published, massive malnutrition in Baluchistan, seems Pakistan using Saudi Arabia, IMF, World Bank loans, and the recent loan signed from Russia, using it in right direction.

What a waste of showing the wrong talents for the wrong commodity and be proud of. With the same zeal and efforts why not upgrade our education system and produce decent human beings instead of illiterates.

We produce tanks and our children die of hunger. We make guns for export while guns shoot down polio workers. We export artillery shells while our sisters die during childbirth. We proudly manufacture export quality weapons of death and destruction while import basic equipment’s for BAYKUS health units. Malaria, TB, Hepatitis, Dengue, heart attack, gastro are talking points in every household. Patients die in dozens per day in children wards in Faisalabad and Sargodha and we are celebrating shops of death. We should be ashamed of ourselves rather than proud.

Wait our technology is far superior that QAU was ranked 496 and people from all over the world want a slice of our superior technology. JF-17 is so advanced that only PAF uses it. Can we have a list of nations using JF-17. This is important as this plane is in production since 2007. By the way, China prefers Sukhois & not JF-17.

@Sunil I totally agree with malnutrition cases in Pakistan but with a hand on your heart can you say that situation is better in India. I have visited India many times and I believe that distribution of wealth is more skewed in India than Pakistan. I am not saying that everything is honky dory here but I believe that with all its wealth and reserves India should be spending more on the welfare of its poor. It will make her a real super power and will generate more jobs and prosperity. In Pakistan I believe private donations espcially zakat is the largest dafety net for the poor.

for jf-17 thunder, its well tested and can do the job at 10 million a piece, its another f-16 like. the Chinese

Be cool guys. All countries big or small need to engage in defence and other sectors with the rest of the world. Jiyo aur jeene do. No point mud slinging.
Every country worth it's salt has to protect it's people and assets so along with education and other sectors decent investment need to be done in defence. Also, research in defence and space is transferrable to many day to day products and systems. But end of the day a balance is needed.
Leave it to the governments. Peace!
