PESHAWAR: The annoyed leaders and workers of Pakistan Peoples Party have decided to participate in the party’s foundation day function to be held in Lahore on Nov 30.

The decision was taken in a meeting held here on Friday with former KP governor Barrister Masood Kausar in the chair. Prominent among the participants were former federal ministers Lal Mohammad Khan and Mian Muzaffar Shah, former MNA Tariq Khattak, former speaker provincial assembly Abdul Akbar Khan, ex-MPA Syed Ayub Shah, Azam Afridi, Khwaja Yawar Naseer, Saeed Ahmed Khan, Misbahuddin, Ijaz Yousufzai and others.

Talking to Dawn, Ayub Shah said that the central leadership had appointed Mr Kausar as coordinator of the PPP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter for the workers convention to be held at Bilawal House, Lahore, on Nov 30 to mark the party’s 47th foundation day.

“Some 500 senior activists, leaders and office-bearers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will participate in the convention,” he said. He said that the workers and leaders of the province had attached great expectations with the Lahore function where the central leadership would take some drastic steps for revitalisation of the party.

“Our demand about the intra-party elections is still intact because it is the only solution to overcome internal differences and to revive the party across the province,” he said and added that all the workers and leaders wanted clean people to lead the party and restore its past position.

He said that the office-bearers who usurped rights of the workers, served their own interests by using unfair means could not lead the party and thus the workers were unwilling to follow them.

The disappointing result of last general elections, he said, was a live proof of the fact that the workers did not want to support the corrupt people as their candidates because they could not serve the purpose of the poor workers.

“We do not want to get something for ourselves, but we want the leadership to implement the philosophy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the party’s manifesto in the real sense,” he maintained.

PPP provincial president Khan Zada Khan, general secretary Engineer Mohammad Humayun Khan, information secretary Liaquat Shabab and office secretary Zulqarnain Shah said that the party was getting strength in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and it was ready for elections at any level.

In a joint statement here on Friday the PPP leaders said that since Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had taken over charge as chairman the party workers had got a new courage and they were making strenuous efforts to activate all the dormant people in the province.

Referring to the political activities and rallies of different political parties in the country, they said that the entire credit went to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and other family members who rendered sacrifices of their lives, but strengthened democracy in the country.

They said that people from every segment of the society and all those belonging to the middle class should be thankful to the Bhutto family which enabled them to raise voice for their rights.

“We are ready for elections and also for revolution because PPP always faced hardships but did not compromise on its principles and rights of the people,” they claimed and asked the workers to forge unity and work hard for the party’s betterment in their respective areas.
