PM meets outgoing ISI chief

ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday at the Prime Minister House.

During the meeting, the premier praised Zaheer's efforts and services in relation to counter-terrorism and national security.

The outgoing spy chief, who retires from his post on Nov 7, also apprised the premier on professional matters relating to the ISI.

Sharif wished him luck for the future.

Lt Gen Zaheer Ul Islam also paid a farewell call on President Mamnoon Hussain today at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Presidential spokesman Farooq Adil told Dawn that the president commended the services rendered by the outgoing DG ISI for defense and security of the country and for strengthening the intelligence apparatus.

President Mamnoon Hussain wished the outgoing DG ISI good health, success and happiness in his future life.

Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, who was named as the new ISI director general, will be taking charge of the position upon Zaheer's retirement.
