TIMERGARA: Speakers at a workshop have urged the government and humanitarian organisations to take notice of gender discrimination in politics, decision making and economic development.

The three-day training workshop for journalists was organised by a non-governmental organisation ‘Awaz’ at a local hotel in collaboration with South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP-Pk).

The objectives of the workshop were to create awareness among journalists about women rights, vulnerable communities and domestic violence against women and children.

SAP-Pk representatives Nusrat Ara, Farzana Mumtaz, Mansoor Ahmad and Kashif Zarin told the participants of the workshop on its second day that gender discrimination was on the rise in Pakistani society. They said that women were barred from casting vote in many parts of the country.

The speakers said that media could highlight issues relating to violation of women rights. They asked journalists to play active role in ensuring women participation in political process and economic development.

They said that barring women from jobs and voting on the basis of their gender was unlawful and injustice with them.

SPORTS: The sport competitions among government high and higher secondary schools in Dir Lower concluded at different grounds on Thursday.

The government higher secondary school Munda got first position in football while government high school Ramora stood second. In hockey, government high school Brangola bagged first position while government higher secondary school Sarai Bala remained second in the district.

Similarly, government higher secondary school Chakdara defeated government high school Adam Dherai in cricket and stood first in Chakdara zone.

The government higher secondary school Khall stood first in basketball and volleyball while government higher secondary school Saddo got second position in basketball and government higher secondary school Ouch stood first in volleyball competition.

Principal Tahir Khan, principal Waseem Khan and headmaster Shamsul Islam distributed trophies among the winner and runner teams of cricket and football at Chakdara on Thutsday.
