KARACHI: The low-paid staff of the Karachi Race Club (KRC) heaved a sigh of relief following raise in their salaries after about four years by the management.

Taking notice of a report published in Dawn, the hierarchy of the KRC decided to bring the salaries of lower staff at par with the minimum fixation of Rs11,000 by the government.

The KRC president Syed Sadruddin Shah, who visited the club the other day, gave his nod for raising the wages and bringing the under-paid staff at one platform in a transparent way.

Forty-four of the total 57 employees who were getting monthly salaries between Rs 6,050 and Rs 10, 640 benefitted after the raise.

According to estimate, the raise is likely to put an additional burden of approximately Rs1,50,000 on the KRC.

It is learnt that the remaining 14 staffers including the secretary are expected to get reasonable raise after Ashura.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude to the KRC president for giving raise in their salaries at a time when the cost of living has reached an unprecedented high level.
