SWABI: The leaders of Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP), a coalition partner in the provincial government, have criticised Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for not taking them into confidence about withdrawal of no-confidence motion against the chief minister.

Sources said that the leaders of AJIP in a meeting held in Peshawar on Thursday decided that they would not participate in the meeting of parliamentary parties as they were ignored on the important issue.

Sources said that leader of opposition in the provincial assembly, Maulana Lutfur Rehman, had withdrawn the no-trust motion against Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.

They said that AJIP leaders showed serious concern over the attitude of the leaders of PTI, its senior coalition partner in the provincial government. “We have decided to stay away from the parliamentary parties meetings. It is a clear message to the PTI leadership that we have strong reservation,” said a leader of AJIP.

The opposition parties had a motion for requisition of the provincial assembly on August 19 soon after the PTI lawmakers tendered resignations from the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh and National Assembly. The main objective of the motion was to stop the chief minister from dissolving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

Sources said that Jamait Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl had devised a strategy to remove the PTI-led provincial government through the no-confidence motion but Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif didn’t the move.

Biland Iqbal, AJIP provisional general secretary, when contacted, said that they worked with PTI as coalition partner in difficult times. “We are still part of coalition but we have a right to be taken into confidence by the PTI leadership,” he said.

Mr Iqbal said that the party leaders expressed ‘strong reservation’ in the meeting and it was decided that they would stay away from the upcoming gatherings till removal of their concern.

“We were standing on the container with PTI chairman, Imran Khan and supported our coalition partner in the agitation against the federal government but despite our contribution and commitment to the coalition we were ignored and were not taken into confidence like the other parties,” he said.

The AJIP leader said that if their reservations were not addressed it would have far-reaching impact on their coalition with the PTI.
