PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society in collaboration with the German Red Cross (GRC) will set up offices in Chitral and Shangla districts to expand operations and effectively respond to natural calamities.

Ms Dorothy Schmitt, GRC’s construction delegate, said here the other day that the construction of the offices would cost Rs37.5million. She said that the offices would also have warehouses with storage capacity of 200 non-food items.

According to her, the new buildings would also house five shops to be rented out for revenue generation to help the calamity-stricken people in both the districts.

Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chairman Lt-Gen retired Mohammed Hamid Khan gave a presentation to the GRC representative regarding the construction of the offices. He hoped that PRCS offices would greatly help the vulnerable segments of the far flung areas of the province.

It is to be recalled that in 2012, the GRC assisted PRCS in establishing a branch office at Kohistan district which has helped the society to expand its operations for the population of the remote district.

Mr Khan said that GRC was also supporting PRCS in establishing a modern warehouse in Peshawar with a storage capacity of 2,000 non-food items.
