Bank investments up

INVESTMENTS of all scheduled banks stood at Rs4,407.734bn in the week ending September 5, up 0.74 per cent from the prior week’s level of Rs4,375.348bn, according to recently released central bank data.

When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs3,602.23bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 22.36 per cent.

Meanwhile, investments of all commercial banks stood at Rs4,375.702bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs4,342.523bn, a rise of 0.76 per cent. Investments of all specialised banks stood at Rs32.032bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs32.825bn.

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ending September 5, cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks decreased by 6.16 per cent to Rs673.665bn, against the earlier week’s Rs717.856bn. The current week’s figure is higher by 6.84 per cent when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs630.528bn.

Cash and balances with treasury banks of all commercial banks stood at Rs670.63bn in the week, against the earlier week’s figure of Rs714.828bn, a fall of 6.2 per cent. Cash and balances with treasury banks of all specialised banks stood at Rs3.035bn in the week, against the prior week’s figure of Rs3.028bn.

Gross advances by scheduled banks stood at Rs4,239.726bn in the week under review, down 0.18 per cent over the previous week’s figure of Rs4,247.249bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs3,811.078bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 11.25 per cent.

Advances by commercial banks decreased to Rs4,106.005bn in the week, against the earlier week’s figure of Rs4,113.633bn, or by 0.18 per cent. Advances by specialised banks stood at Rs133.721bn in the week.

Total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs10,248. 983bn in the week ending September 5, lower by 0.34 per cent over the preceding week’s figure of Rs10,283.557bn. The current week’s figure was higher by14 per cent when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs8,989.796bn.

Total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs10,073.44bn in the week, down 0.34 per cent over the previous week’s figure of Rs10,107.616bn. Total assets of all specialised banks stood at Rs175.543bn in the week, over the previous week’s Rs175. 942bn.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks fell to Rs617.855bn in the week under review, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs641.743bn, or by 3.72 per cent. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs422.715bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 46.16 per cent.

Borrowings by commercial banks declined to Rs539.41bn in the week, against the previous week’s Rs563.322bn, or by 4.24 per cent. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs78.445bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs78.421bn.

Deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks decreased by 1.16 per cent to Rs8,038.264bn in the week ending September 5, over the preceding week’s figure of Rs8,132.458bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7,142.726bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 12.54 per cent.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks fell to Rs8,017.812bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs8,111.986bn, or by 1.16 per cent. Deposits and other accounts of all specialised banks stood at Rs20.452bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs20.473bn.

Other liabilities of all scheduled banks stood at Rs371.421bn in the week under review, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs366.333bn, showing a rise of 1.4 per cent. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs344.68bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 7.76 per cent.

Other liabilities of all commercial banks increased to Rs318.145bn in the week, over the previous week’s figure of Rs313.025bn, or by 1.64 per cent. The current week’s figure is higher by 7.43 per cent when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs296.126bn.

Net assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs996.278bn in the week ending September 5, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs985.301bn, up 1.11 per cent. The current week’s figure is higher by 8. 51 per cent when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs918.138bn.

Net assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs976.829bn in the week, higher by 1.14 per cent over the preceding week’s figure of Rs965.761bn. Net assets of all specialised banks stood at Rs19.449bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs19.541bn.
