LAHORE: Chief selector Moin Khan is arriving in Lahore on Tuesday to have a final discussion with PCB chairman Shaharyar M. Khan over Pakistan’s one-day and T20 squads for the upcoming series against Australia. The teams are likely to be named on Wednesday (today).

Earlier, the selectors were to announce the team on Sept 16 but delayed it in order to assess the performance of the players in the ongoing T20 Cup being held in Karachi.

Head coach Waqar Younis and Pakistan ODI captain Misbah-ul-Haq are also in Karachi where they had further discussion with the entire selection committee to give final shape to the squads.

Teams for Aussie series likely today

According to sources, there appears to be some deadlock on a couple of players and that is causing a delay in naming of the squad.

“It seems that skipper Misbah and coach Waqar are in favour of senior player Younis Khan’s induction in the one-day squad while the selection committee wants to test Asad Shafiq at the one-down position,” sources told Dawn.

“The selectors were initially wanting to convince Misbah to play at the one-down position but they could not succeed and are now keen to test Asad on this position, the sources said.

Chief selector Moin will now have a final discussion with the PCB chief before naming the squads.
