BANNU: Suspected militants gunned down two policemen in the limits of Haveed police station here on Thursday.

Police said that constables Noor Ali Shah and Sadiq Zaman were going to Janikhel for duty on a motorcycle when unknown militants opened fire on them in Zandi Akbar Khan area in the jurisdiction of Haveed police station. As a result, both were killed.

The police claimed that three militants were also killed in the exchange of fire, but their bodies were taken away by their accomplices. However, the police claim could not be confirmed independently.

Meanwhile, district police officer DPO Abdur Rashid on the directives of the inspector general of police penalised 17 police personnel, including DSP headquarter, on charges of corruption, nepotism and involvement in criminal activities. Police sources said that services of one policeman were terminated, two were suspended and perks and privileges of 11 others stopped.
