PML-N MNA fined Rs500 for overspeeding in Lahore

LAHORE: In what appears to be another example of authorities refusing preferential treatment for the influential, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly Muhammad Afzal Khokhar was fined Rs500 on Thursday for overspeeding on Lahore’s Canal road.
Warden Rao Abrar fined Khokhar after he exceeded the speed limit of 60kms.
Khokhar had won NA-128 National Assembly seat from Lahore in the 2013 election by securing 98,491 votes. His Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) competitor Malik Karamat Ali Khokhar had managed 57,020 votes.
In a country where the influential and society elite often get away with violating laws, incidents where 'VIPs' — in this case, a sitting MNA from the ruling party — are brought to book receive exceptional attention in the news and on social media.
On Tuesday, Pakistan Peoples Senator (PPP) and former interior minister Rehman Malik and PML-N MNA Dr Ramesh Kumar Wakwani sparked outrage over the delay of PIA's flight PK-370, which irate passengers said was an example of 'VIP culture' that allows influential people to call in favours. The two were accused of holding the plane back while other passengers waited for hour.

The incident — which was filmed and uploaded to video-sharing site Dailymotion — created a storm on Twitter and Facebook, with users applauding the passengers of PK-370 for successfully barring the lawmakers from boarding the aircraft.

Two PIA staff were suspended when they leaked the information that inferior minister Rehman Malik and PML-N, Dr Ramesh Kumar Wakwani were the cause of flight's delay.
I fear Warden Rao Abrar's suspension after he fined Rs500 to PML-N Muhammad Afzal Khokhar.

are you joking me? just Rs.500 around $5 USD... why the fine is so low? If you want to fix traffic issues around Pakistan not just Lahore then give violators big fines. starting from PKR 10,000. to 50,000. Then watch how people drive following all traffic laws...

How amusing. Someone who drives a Landcruiser in Pakistan was fined 500 rupees!!. He probably makes 500,00 rupees a day in all kinds of activities. So, a 500 rupees note will not make a dent in his lifestyle. What would have been really interesting for these people to spend sometime behind bars (not for this offence, of course) as that will be the only punishment that will deter people like him. Well done to the policeman.

@Justice for all .... it doesn't happen first time before this so called dharna and inqalaab ISB Traffic Police did this so many times in islamabad to sitting senators and MNA .... it has nothing to do with IK and TUQ am afraid if a kid will refuse to do home work PTI supporters will appreciate him for Following IK and TUQ.......

As much as I want money out of him. But -- laws and fines should be same for all. 500 is a lot of money for a lot of people. We shouldn't ask different penalties for the same offense from different people. The good news is that he got ticketed.

Rs. 500 is less than $5, in US this could be $500 ticket plus mandatory defensive course and points on the license. This guys got slap on the wrist. This encourages anyone to pay $5 and enjoy speeding in Lahore.

Compare with Mush days when a warden was handcuffed by military police for fining a general. Is it even possible today to fine a sitting general?
