Saad continues to excel in the pool

PESHAWAR: The gold chase of promising swimmer from Sindh Saad Amin continued adding four more gold medals to complete a tally of eight gold medals and a bronze on the second day of the ongoing 19th National Age Group Swimming Championship here at the Adil Khan Swimming Pool under the aegis of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Swimming Association on Saturday.

Besides winning eight gold medals, the 16-year-old Saad got the honor of creating six records in 200m freestyle, 100m free, 200m IM, 400m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke in addition to winning a bronze medal in 200m backstroke.

Muneeb who created three records on the opening day winning three medals also added five more gold medals to make an overall eight gold medals tally besides creating another record in the 100m butterfly by clearing a distance in 1:17.63sec. He broke the record of Saad—1:29.09sec— he made in 2005.

Muneeb, after winning three gold medals with as many records in 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley, added five more gold medals on the second day winning in 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle Under-12, 100m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

On the second day, Saad created five records in 200m IM Under-16, 400m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 50m backstroke while Muneeb made one more record when he created a new national record in 100m butterfly.

Besides promising Saad and Muneeb, Humza Anwar of Sindh in 400m freestyle Under-14, Ismail Najeeb of Punjab in 200m backstroke Sindh team in 4X200m freestyle relay and Aamir Motiwala of Sindh in 200m backstroke Under-14 got the honor of creating new national records.

In the overall team position, Sindh with 27 gold medals, 19 silver and eight bronzes secured 870 points followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with two silver medals and 16 bronzes recording 217 points, Punjab with one gold, seven silver and four bronze medals secured 215 points. Gilgit Baltistan the fourth participating team so far has failed to win any medals.
