Veteran politician Anwar Noon is no more

LAHORE: Malik Anwar Ali Noon, veteran politician and former MNA, passed away in Lahore on Friday. He was 90.

The veteran politician is survived by his wife Begum Parween Anwar Noon, sons Malik Munawar Ali Noon, Malik Amjad Ali Noon and Malik Asad Ali Noon, and daughters Ms Mazhar Awan, Ms Imran Raza Shah and Mehreen Noon.

His qul will be held on Sunday (tomorrow) at village Alipur Noon, Bhera, Sargodha district, at 3pm. Dua will be held at 4:30pm.

Anwar Noon was elected MNA twice. He was a close friend of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and a founding member of the PPP. He had carried on the Noon family’s political legacy with great integrity. He was former prime minister Feroz Khan Noon’s cousin. He retired from active politics in the late 1970s while introducing his son Malik Amjad Ali Noon into the field.

Anwar Noon completed his Senior Cambridge from the Aitchison College, Lahore, and later graduated from the Government College, Lahore. In 1945 he joined the 6th Lancers of the Armoured Corps in the Indian Army and served as the only native ADC to the British governor in Calcutta.

He was released as a young captain from the Indian Army on Aug 14, 1947. In the 1965 war, he reported back for duty as a major in charge of the anti-aircraft guns at the PAF Sargodha Air Base and the ammunition depot, Sargodha.
