Karachi races cancelled

KARACHI: The Karachi Race Club (KRC) abruptly announced cancellation of its scheduled Sunday’s Gymk­hana race meeting in the aftermath of prevailing political situation in the country.

“The races [scheduled for Sunday] have been cancelled,” according to KRC secretary Syed Ali Akbar Shah Rashdi late on Saturday night.

He told Dawn that a new handicap will be issued for the next meeting which is likely to take place on Sunday (Sept 7).

Meanwhile, according to sources, rider M. Naeem was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a local hospital following serious head injuries that he sustained during morning track work at the racecourse on Sunday.

The CT scan reveals that the rider, who is still unconscious, has a blood clot in his brain, the sources added.
