BAHAWALPUR: Two persons were shot dead in two separate incidents on Saturday.

In the first incident, a man was killed during a robbery at Mohallah Sadaat in Mubarakpur, about 40 miles from here. According to police, trader Haji Ghulam Mustafa and his son Irfan were sleeping in their house when two armed men entered and looted Rs600,000 cash, jewellery and mobile phones worth Rs250,000.

Mustafa offered resistance and was seriously injured when the suspects opened fire. On hearing bullet shots, Mustafa’s nephew, Kamran, living in the adjacent house climbed up the wall to see what was happening. The robbers opened fire on him, which hit him in the head and he died on the spot.

In his statement to police, Mustafa claimed Kamran had identified one of the robbers as Qamar Abbas alias Nadeem who was his sister’s son and the two families had estranged relations. The suspects managed to escape.

Police registered a case against Abbas and his unidentified accomplice. Mustafa was admitted to a hospital where his condition was stated to be serious.

In the second incident, Haq Nawaz was gunned down by two motorcyclists at a petrol pump near Noorpur Noranga, about 30km from here on Noorpur-Head Rajkan Road.According to police, two unidentified motorcyclists stopped at a petrol pump for refilling when they got into an argument with the pump owners.

Nawaz, living opposite the pump, reached there to intervene. During the scuffle, the motorcyclists whipped out a pistol and shot Nawaz dead. While fleeing, the suspects also looted Rs42,000 from Nawaz.

Police registered a case against the unidentified motorcyclists and handed over the body to the family after post-mortem.

INVESTIGATION: Baghdadul Jadid police began investigation into complaints of alleged desecration of Quran in a school mosque. Police told Dawn the complaints were reported by the school administration and suspects were being identified.
