ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) agreed on Friday to resume talks with a government committee to try and find a solution to the prevailing political impasse.
Sources in the party told Dawn that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar had played a key role in convincing both parties to return to the negotiating table.
Talks got under way just after midnight at Dr Tahirul Qadri’s container on Constitution Avenue. The government side consisted of MQM’s Haider Abbas Rizvi, Safron Minister retired Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Ejazul Haq.
The PAT side included its President Raheeq Abbasi, Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali, Sunni Ittehad Council’s Sahibzada Hamid Raza and former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar.
