LAHORE: Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar met with Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday before the former's scheduled meeting with Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq and said that a democratic solution was a mutual wish of all parties.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed that a democratic solution should be fashioned and political consensus be made a priority.

Shahbaz advised Sarwar to reach out to leaders of other political parties and recruit their assistance.

The leaders also discussed the agenda and points to be later presented to JI emir Sirajul Haq who is likely to mediate between the government and the PTI.

The JI emir had yesterday presented a four point agenda and had asked for the constitution of a mediating party immediately in order to resolve the political deadlock.

Earlier, Sarwar had also had a telephonic conversation with the Pakistan Peoples Party leader Rehman Malik in which he urged the latter and his party to play a role in resolving outstanding issues through consensus.

On Friday, it was reported that the government had started selecting its team for holding negotiations with leaders of the PTI’s long march on their demands.

A government official had said that so far the name of Sirajul Haq had been finalised as one of the interlocutors, while consultations were being held for other members of the team.
