Model Town commission report being kept secret

LAHORE: The Punjab government is keeping the report of the judicial commission on the Model Town incident secret, but according to hearsay it pins the blame solely on police.

The commission had handed over its report to the provincial government on Aug 9. At least 11 activists of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek were killed and many others injured during a clash with police on June 17.

Sources in the Punjab government on Friday said the report was handed over to the home department that was studying it. The report was being considered a top secret document and not allowed to be seen by junior officials of the department.

The sources said it had not been sent to the chief minister for action, if any, as yet. But they said the assumption was the report blamed police for the incident. And this assumption had made the security force cautious about handling public gatherings, especially the march of Dr Tahirul Qadri, to avoid any mishandling.

if the report helds polic accountabl,e it will be made public. if a political leader (SS) is held accountable, it will be kept secret. there is no point in keeping the report secret if the report clears the KHOON league.

What is so secret about it. Shahbaz is directly responsible and he ordered Rana Sana to attack the innocent people. But who cares in Pakistan, those who were to die they died. Its simple.

The reports findings will be used to blackmail Police officials but never made public or to the court for charges.. Look Gullo But is released on bail by honourable High Court in Lahore!!!!!

It is the moral rather a legal duty of the government to reveal the findings of the report as there is not any freedom of information legislation in the constitution which could have bound the government to disclose the secret document which these government official thought were most likely to create a law and order situation----Our constitution has not yet been tailored to meet up the complex issues attached to the accountability and fair governance.
