QUETTA: The provincial government has launched an investigation into dumping of mutilated bodies in different areas of Balochistan over the past few days after receiving a letter from Commander of Southern Command Lt Gen Nasir Khan Janjua requesting the provincial government to do so.

Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani confirmed having received the letter from Lt Gen Janjua and said the provincial government had directed officials concerned to investigate the killings and dumping of bodies.

Talking to Dawn, he said the provincial government had been investigating all such incidents. He described as baseless the allegations of involvement of security institutions in the cases.

Lt Gen Janjua wrote the letter to Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, the chief secretary, home secretary and the inspector general of police, asking them to launch an investigation into the killing of people and dumping their bodies in different areas of Balochistan.

He dispelled an impression that personnel of security institutions were involved in such cases and said allegations against security institutions were baseless.

Lt Gen Janjua said he had noticed discovery of mutilated bodies over the past several months and in view of the situation he wanted the provincial government to investigate the incidents and arrest the people involved in these cases.

The home secretary said the departments concerned had complete record of those people whose bodies had been found. He said those whose identity could not be ascertained had been buried temporarily.
