LAHORE: Newly-appointed DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf on Sunday directed all divisional SPs to ensure extensive security arrangements at city's mosques, Imam bargahs, markets, bazaars and shopping centers on Chand Raat and Eid day.

At a meeting of SPs held at his office to review security arrangements in connection with upcoming religious festival, the DIG also directed the police officers to enhance patrolling in busy areas and put all the entry and exist points of the city on high alert.

The DIG said as Section 144 of CrPc had already been enforced in the provincial capital, those involved in display of weapons and aerial firing would be dealt with an iron hands without any discrimination.

The DIG also ordered the SPs to conduct search and sweep operations in their respective jurisdictions daily to check suspicious elements.

He also sought public cooperation to maintain law and order in the city, urging the citizens to inform the nearest police station or emergency helpline 15 in case they come across any suspected person or bag etc.
